Although the roads are completely free of snow and ice, the cycle path adjacent to it is completely ungritted and extremely dangerous. And this is one of Romsey's busiest cycle routes: the cycle bridge over the railway on Coldham's Lane. The County Council refuses to grit roads unless there is a blizzard, and even then only if there is "residual grit" after the roads have been covered.
