[Image taken 30.4.23] Haxby and Wiggington Methodist Church, The Village, Haxby. These comprehensive and very professional looking documents are the map and questions for the black – longest – trail of the 2023 Scarecrow Festival (www.hwmc.org.uk/scarecrows). It takes place over the (first) May Bank Holiday weekend. It is centred on the Haxby and Wiggington Methodist Church (www.hwmc.org.uk/) where there are volunteers selling the route guides, providing advice and assistance in front of large wall maps, and selling refreshments. The event is very popular with entire families and all ages. It’s inclusive… note the Advice for People Using Mobility Scooters and Wheelchairs. We also saw very, very many people pushing buggies and/or with children cycling independently or on balance bikes. The Aroma cafe (staffed by Church volunteers) was open on the Sunday especially for the Scarecrow Festival. I asked for information about cycle parking to be added to the About leaflet. The person I emailed with my request immediately saw the point and added it: “Coming by bus or bike?. He said, “I will try to remember to add it next year without needing to be reminded.” There’s cycle parking at the Church (see: #193498, #193499), close to the Aroma Cafe (see: #188093), on the main street (see: #188087) and at the Scout Hall (see: #193500).
