Another example of the issues of traffic flow along Bateman Street.

Coming to the end of Eligius Passage, I need to turn into Bateman Street. Notice the parked car directly opposite. This means that any exit from this road is dangerous and must be done very carefully. Cars drive into this cyclelane from the opposite direction at speed. Check out radwagon.blogspot.com/2011/06/bateman-street.html for examples.

This means that the normal safety of the cyclelane simply doesn't exist, especially with this parked Royal Mail van.

Then, the surface of the cyclelane is so degraded, it's difficult to hold a line that keeps the bike in it safely. When it's wet it's even worse.

Finally, as the contraflow section approaches, I'm glad I'm not 30 yards ahead of my position as a car drives into my lane to avoid parked cars.

This is yet more evidence of how badly this road infrastructure is set out and maintained.
