This bit of road is always a bit dodgy. Drivers do tend to assume cyclists are happy being driven into the kerb as it moves out. Here's a classic example.

I'm normally good at holding my line through this bit, but the sound of the engine roaring up behind me was quite scary, especially with the oncoming car. I had no confidence the car would have stopped had I held my line and it would have driven right through me.

So I diverted into the side and got a close pass to boot.
