There's quite a bit of repairs going along the Brooklands Avenue Cyclepath. It's interesting to see how they are doing this and what effect it has.

First, the metal covers are quite a sharp lip. I've no doubt some will find this pretty awkward and unpleasant to ride over. Second, the liberal spreading of these at the end of the clip, unfastened and in the path is not good practise.

However, everything was fastened a day later. And the other option would be to close the entire cyclepath and put people riding into the narrow, quite unpleasant roadspace (see So, broadly speaking I favour this approach.

The other thing is to think what would happen should this level of disruption happen in a road. You'll notice that although people are cycling a bit slower and having to wait every so often, they are making very reasonable progress. Compare this to roadspace works. Traffic lights, backed up queues in rush hour, and irritated people behind the wheel. So, even cycling roadworks are better!
