I'm going around 24mph down the road and prepare to pass a stopped bus. Then I spot that it wants to pull out, so wave it out and pull in behind. I slow to around 20mph and prepare for the road ahead which includes a left turn for me and a roundabout for the bus.

The van shoots past me close enough to touch and immediately jams on the brakes as the bus is slowing just ahead. There was nothing coming so the main reason they didn't give space is that they couldn't get past in time if they did. This is also opposite a turning ot the right in a residential area.

Forgetting failing to give room as required by Highway Code rule 163, this is just careless driving, below the standard expected of people driving.

Wickes have successfully dropped down the list of places to go when the next of my home improvement project comes along.

Passing to Close
Highway code rule 213.
Motorcyclists and cyclists may suddenly need to avoid uneven road surfaces and obstacles such as drain covers or oily, wet or icy patches on the road. Give them plenty of room and pay particular attention to any sudden change of direction they may have to make.

And more importantly Highway code rule 163.
Overtake only when it is safe and legal to do so. You should give motorcyclists, cyclists and horse riders at least as much room as you would when overtaking a car.

Careless Driving.
