I find Gilbert Road to be mostly a good experience. Perhaps that because I've lived for 30 years with scary vehicular riding and it does feel like there's enough space here. Perhaps it's because I'm used to going at quite a speed, almost peak car speed when going down it.

However, it's not all plain sailing. And certainly rush hour traffic is likely to be a lot worse than this. Here's my experience of today and two obvious violations along with a few smaller ones.

The first instance, a lorry from www.icmgerson.com is illegally parked up in the cyclelane. Some vehicles are exempt from the cyclelane laws, but this is none of them. I pull out after the red car has passed me (the camera angle/zoom fails to catch that) as I'm going the same speed as the people driving here, but I'd expect this to be a considerable issue for a lot of people cycling.

Then, a few infractions as people driving clip the edge of the lane. I'm ignoring them on this clip.

The second instance happens as the people driving approach the lights. I notice the blue Escort Convertible M440 DPN going a bit further into the cyclelane. Then, as the lights change the person driving illegally goes fully into the cyclelane.

This would be a lot more difficult with segregated cyclepaths.
