Shades of Iwo Jima, the new cycle barometer is raised.

The cycling barometer counts cycles passing around a bend of a cycle path in a corner of Parker's Piece.

The barometer itself is a vertical display board set to the side of the cycle path at the bend. There are two bicycle detectors built into the path, each about ten metres from the location of the barometer.

They work by detecting the metal in a bicycle as it passes. They are directional and have been set to detect bikes as they approach the barometer from either side. A count is registered as a bike approaches the barometer, but is not double counted when it passes over the other detector heading away.

By later in the day the count had already reached 2352 see #59512.
