Random annoying Cyclists Dismount sign, right next to a cycleway

Austerity in the UK

Advanced cycle lights - they're only activated if a bike is detected, otherwise the lights go to green for motor vehicles at once.

Much bigger better ASL since the junction changes.

Works on the Fen Causeway crossing.

Cyclist bravely ignoring the Footway Closed Ahead sign, which does refer to cycling as well - there's quite a detour to the left due to works on the Fen Causeway crossing.

The Driftway is in a terrible state - again.

A pedestrian steps on the anti-pedestrian surface at the recently changed Barton Road junction.

#CamRideHome at recently changed Barton Road junction.

New crossing - someone at the county council really wanted pedestrians to keep left and go right around Lammas Land while cyclists would keep right and take the direct diagonal. This did not survive contact with reality.

New build-out with anti-pedestrian edging

Cycle Lane Closed - cyclists are presumably meant to cross the road and wait at the temporary lights to get through the roadworks. Not very helpful.

Cycleway supposedly closed for roadworks

Start of new off-road cycleway to the Barton Road/Lammas land crossing

New pedestrian-only crossing to the foot and cycleways on the north side of Barton Road.

Big new footway build-out on the left, with Driftway no longer aligned directly with the Barton Road

New crossing on the Cambridge-Barton Road route

Crossing and new segregated route into Cambridge - pedestrians to the left, cyclists to the right (in theory - I think)

New segregated arrangement for cyclists and pedestrians (in theory - cyclists to the left, I think)

Start of new cycleway to the new Barton Rd/Grantchester St junction

New crossing on the Barton Road-Cambridge route

New segregated cycleway along the Barton Road

New cycle lane leading in to the Grantchester St ASL

This sounds rather over the top - there's nothing happening over the bank holiday weekend anyway.

Two new pedestrian/cycleways under construction - and a barrier moved to allow passage over the bank holiday weekend rather than having to cross the main road twice.

Mobile cycle repairs (possibly off-duty at the pub)

Lots of potholes have been marked up for repair, but only this one has been filled in so far.

Cyclists Dismount sign where an improved cycleway/greenway is being constructed.

Construction of a wider cycleway/greenway - at the moment all cyclists and pedestrians have to cross the main road twice to get past.

Cycleway under construction, with space taken from motor traffic.

Alternating traffic flows through roadworks - very long phases, and no real provision for pedestrians and cyclists crossing the road - just wait till the cars stop and rush across. But it looks as if there'll be a better cycleway when it's … [more]

Crossing under construction to the widened cycleway along the Barton Road

Huge pothole. Any chance of it being fixed while they're working nearby on Barton Road? I'll ask but I doubt it.

Cyclists Dismount sign at the start of roadworks on Barton Road, Newnham - this section of Grantchester Street has been closed to allow the use of two-way rather than three-way temporary lights, and as a storage compound .

The west end of Herschel Road is in a terrible state, and reporting it to the county council achieves nothing. It's a through route for cyclists towards West Cambridge and Eddington.

It's all happening here - after these City Fibre works, Cambridge Water is going to close Grantchester St (and Bateman St too) for a couple of days.

Following the attempt to use temporary lights (#189852 and #189853) they've given up - not ideal for the walk to school.

Local traffic chaos due to parked cars blocking cars trying to pass queuing cars. Also no lights on Chedworth St, one light for both Grantchester St and Eltisley Avenue.

Local traffic chaos due to parked cars blocking cars trying to pass queuing cars. Also no lights on Chedworth St, one light for both Grantchester St and Eltisley Avenue.

This is what #189850 means by Access to Frontages Only - no problem for cycles or small cars

I'm never sure what this means - is there access or not? I'm sure there is for cycles.

The setting sun lights the ice chips on the frozen Cam.

Eltisley Avenue and Grantchester Meadows about four after the big snow of 2022.

Interesting story... I reported this pothole to the county highways department, they denied it was anything to do with them and they didn't know who owned the road (despite leading to a public car park), but the city confirmed it was a … [more]

No sign of activity for the last few days, but I think they're renewing the grippy surfacing.

There are two new potholes on the Driftway - a major cycle route but not a through road, so we'll see how long it takes to get them fixed.

Cycle parking needed at the entry to Grantchester Meadows

Definitely time to strim the nettles

I reported this on the county highways web form in February - 'It's a hole that you occasionally fix but it keeps coming back, perhaps because vehicles are turning. Please do it properly!' and received a reply in June - 'We are pleased to … [more]

Not sure what's going on, but I've never seen so much obstructive car parking on the footway here.

On-street cycle parking needed - one car space could give safe storage for all these bikes.

Not easy to see, but one sign reads Roadworks from 27/4 for 4 days, the other reads Roadworks from 29/4 for 3 days - and they're both still there well into May.

What I kept telling councillors and officers was one of the most abused ASLs in Cambridge has been repainted at last, along with the whole junction.

A clear need for cycle stands in place of a car-parking space. Submitted to the Cambridge parking consultation, let's see what happens.

New fencing for two houses, new cycle stands for one - the nearest of the four available spaces won't get much use, I predict - if only they'd put them in at a slight angle.

Obviously the car park closure doesn't apply to us.

New cycle parking at Newnham's Co-op - and Don't Park in the Garden signs - this was until recently a low box hedge which people often leant their bikes on. So there may well be problems here.

People might think that this refers to parking at the entrance to Grantchester Meadows, but no, it refers to South Green Road, the private close to the right.

There was talk of parking being banned here (except for disabled blue badge holders?) but nothing has happened.

Lengthy queues on (traffic-calmed) Grange Road due to closure of the A1134.

The A1134 is closed for 8 days - there's passage for pedestrians but nothing for cyclists as such.

Yet again, someone has had a brilliantly original idea for free advertising, in a rather anti-social location. How long will it last?

Problems with the school run, I suspect.

One arm of this route sign is totally missing.

A letter to Newnham residents from the Lib Den councillors - the petition against removing car parking at the start of Grantchester Meadows will be considered by the county council, so there will be no changes before 27 July.

Car parking at the north end of Grantchester Meadows, proposed for closure - since the introduction of parking restrictions in Newnham Croft, and the growth in van-living, the numbers of vehicles here have gone up. There's a clear need for … [more]

At last, some actual cycle stands at Cambridge Rugby Club - see #38282 and #73767

Cycle Planter parking

Partial repair. Let's see how long it lasts this time.

This stretch of the fen has been flooded for over a month - there's a free-flowing stream to the right but somehow the cycle path seems to be an impermeable barrier to drainage.

Already reported, but as it's Pothole Watch Week....

I have no idea how someone managed to drive into that route sign, but it needs straightening.
